Gegalvaniseerd staal streng of strengen vormen de centrale kern van de dirigent, rond die is gestrand een of meer lagen van EC Grade Aluminium draden. De stalen kern kan bestaan uit een enkele streng of een concentrische gestrand kabel van 7,</span><span style="font-size: 14.0px">19, 37, of meer draden. ACSR geleiders combineren de licht gewicht en goede geleidbaarheid van aluminium met de hoge treksterkte en robuustheid van staal. In line design, dit kan bieden hogere spanningen, minder sag, en langer overspanning lengtes dan verkrijgbaar met de meeste andere soorten overhead geleiders.
